A couple of nights ago, my family and I drove an hour to Banff for dinner. Normally, we wouldn’t go to such efforts simply to dine out, but this was special. You see, for ten days in November, Banff holds its annual Bon Appétit Festival where over a dozen restaurants (many of them five-star) offer three course meals from a prix fixe menu between $25 – $35. With a selection of Canadian, Italian and French cuisine, it’s no wonder that people are flocking to the mountains for this yearly treat!
We decided to dine at The Maple Leaf, which is nestled in the heart of the town. Since the restaurant is on the second floor, we got a beautiful view of the snow capped mountains. This time of year, Banff is always decked out in an array of twinkling Christmas lights, so that certainly added a touch of holiday feel to the evening! Without further ado, allow me to show you why I love to eat.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am an avid pasta lover, so it wasn’t hard for me to decide upon the prawn and boar pasta dish.
My sister had picked the wild BC salmon which came with brocollini and creamy mashed potatoes. Good choice!
For dessert, we had the choice of sorbet, cheesecake, or a hot chocolate soufflé. Ahh…! It was the perfect end to a very satisfying meal.
